Sponsored by BMW Manufacturing, Lollipops is a free program presented by Greenville Symphony Orchestra musicians at Hughes Main Library and satellite locations. The program introduces classical music and orchestral instruments to preschoolers and elementary aged children. Special need students and handicapped adults are welcome to attend.

These 30-minute interactive concerts blend well-known classical music ( including composers like Mozart and Beethoven) with storybooks about music, selected specifically for children. A small ensemble comprised of a rotating group of instruments (wind quintet, string quintet and solo percussion) perform along with a narrator from South Carolina Children’s Theater. Our storyteller provides the audience cues for physical and verbal participation that ultimately enhance young listeners’ vocabulary and reading comprehension.

As our longest-running education program assisted by the Guild, Lollipops has fostered music appreciation through active listening and engagement in the local community for over 50 years. A lollipop is handed out after every concert.
