Programs that generate passion for orchestral music are at the core of the GSO’s service to Greenville and the surrounding areas. In 2015, GSO oversaw 123 different educational events that served nearly 25,000 people in the Upstate.
We must look to the future as we progress our art, and the best way to ensure its sustainability is to develop the audiences and professional musicians of the future. Despite a national decline in public investment in the arts (particularly in public school systems), the GSO continues to offer extensive, nationally award-winning, FREE education programs that encourage participation in the arts; enrich lives and stimulate creative minds; provide firsthand opportunities to learn more about classical music, orchestral instruments, composers and careers in music; enable students to interact with GSO musicians; foster musical appreciation through active listening and engagement; and generally empower students by removing barriers for participation — whether they are demographic, economic, intellectual or emotional.
Through our many partnerships with local schools and organizations, we play a major role in the meaningful, collaborative mission of equipping our community’s students with unique moments of educational and cultural relevance.
