Lollipops: The Really Awful Musicians
10:00 am: Burdette Library, Taylors
11:30 am: Hughes Main Library, Greenville
Featuring the GSO Strings
ADMISSION IS FREE!
All the musicians in the kingdom are so awful that the king sends his men-at-arms to round up musicians and feed them to the royal crocodiles. Pipe and drum player Piffaro heads for the border, collecting other refugee musicians on the way. Their jam session on the road is so bad that the horse pulling the wagon figures out a way to make them all play the same music at the same time — a system of lines and hoofprints (in fact, there was a time before musical notation was devised, but that’s the only part of this story that is true!). This wacky tale about how musicians first learned to play together is delightfully brought to life through the incredible talents of SCCT Principal Teaching Artist Traysie Amick, GSO Education Director Braxton Ballew, and the GSO Strings.
Lollipops concerts introduce children to classical music and the instruments of the orchestra through interactive concerts presented by members of the Greenville Symphony Orchestra. During each concert, chamber ensembles accompany a storybook reading. And, of course, audience members receive a lollipop at the end of each performance!
Lollipops concerts are appropriate for children ages 2 to 7, although all children and adults are welcome. Programs last approximately 30 minutes. Reservations are not required and admission is free.
Lollipops is sponsored by BMW Manufacturing Co.
