GSO String Academy

The GSO String Academy is an orchestra string program offered to an underserved partner elementary school and provides instruction, instruments, and materials to participating students free of charge. The current partner schools are Alexander Elementary School led by Principal Leda Young and Lakeview Middle School led by Dr. Tracy Hall.

The program offers a variety of performance opportunites; last year included a performance at Clemson University and the Poinsett Club in downtown Greenville. Instruction is currently offered on violin, viola, cello and double bass for the 2007-2008 school year.

Pictured above are students of the String Academy from Alexander Elementary School with violinist Rachel Barton Pine during her recent visit to the school as part of the GSO Guest Artist Enrichment Program.
