Amy Yang

Principal Bassoon

Amy Yang was recently granted tenure in her second season as Principal Bassoon with the Greenville Symphony Orchestra. She spent the two previous seasons as Principal bassoon with the Augusta Symphony. Ms. Yang was chosen as the Principal Bassoon of the Taichung Philharmonic Orchestra in Taiwan at the age of eighteen.

Originally from Taiwan, Ms. Yang came to the United States as the winner of the Evergreen/Maryland Governor Scholarship competition. She has served as Principal Bassoon with the Symphony of Southeast Texas, the Woodlands Symphony, TX, and as Second Bassoon with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and the Brevard Symphony Orchestra. She was Co-Principal Bassoon with the Missouri Festival Chamber Orchestra from 2002-2007. Additionally, she has performed with the San Diego Symphony, the Jacksonville Symphony, the Charleston Symphony, the Key West Symphony, and the Iris Symphony.

As a soloist, Ms. Yang was chosen to participate in the 48th Prague Spring International Competition; she was also the winner of both the Mary Graham Lasley Competition in Alexandria, VA, and the Baltimore Music Club Senior Woodwind Competition. She was a Finalist in the Koussevitzsky Competition in New York City, and the Curtis Institute Young Artist Competition in Philadelphia.

A student of Benjamin Kamins, Ms. Yang earned a Master of Music degree from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, a Bachelor of Music degree from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University where she studied with Phillip Kolker, and undertook doctoral studies with Jeffrey Keesecker at the Florida State University.
